What is the History of Holden’S Ranch Chicken Stew
In 1874, a rancher named John Holden settled in the area that is now known as Holden’s Ranch in California. He built a small cabin and began ranching cattle and chickens. The chicken stew recipe is said to have been passed down from his wife, who was of Mexican heritage.
The stew became a popular dish among the local ranch hands and was often requested by them when they came to eat at the Holdens’ house. Over the years, the recipe has been handed down through the family and has become a signature dish of Holden’s Ranch.
The chicken stew is made with simple ingredients that include chicken, potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, tomatoes and chili peppers.
The vegetables are all chopped up and simmered in a large pot with the chicken until they are tender. The stew is then served with tortillas or bread on the side.
Holden’s Ranch chicken stew has been featured in several magazines and newspapers over the years as well as on television shows such as “The Food Network” and “Good Morning America.”

Grandma’S Chicken Stew
When it comes to comfort food, few things can beat grandma’s chicken stew. This hearty dish is packed full of flavor, and is sure to warm you up on a cold winter day. Best of all, it’s relatively easy to make!
To start, you’ll need to gather your ingredients. You’ll need chicken breasts, carrots, celery, potatoes, onion, garlic, thyme, bay leaves, flour, chicken broth, white wine (optional), and salt & pepper. Once you have everything assembled, it’s time to get cooking!
Begin by seasoning the chicken breasts with salt & pepper. Then heat some olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts and cook until browned on both sides.
Remove the chicken from the pot and set aside.
Next, add the chopped onions and garlic to the pot. Cook until softened before adding the carrots and celery.
Continue cooking for 5-7 minutes more. Now it’s time to add the potatoes – cut them into bite-sized pieces so they’ll cook evenly. Stir in the thyme and bay leaves at this point too.
Now it’s time to start building flavor in your stew! Add a bit of flour to thicken things up (about 1/4 cup should do), then pour in the chicken broth and white wine (if using). Bring everything to a simmer before adding back in the cooked chicken breasts.
Let everything cook together until the vegetables are tender andthe flavors have had a chance to meld together – about 30 minutes or so should do it. Season with additional salt & pepper if needed before serving hot with some crusty bread on the side!

Canned Chicken Stew Recipe
This is a great recipe for when you need a quick and easy meal. It only takes a few minutes to prepare and can be made in advance. The chicken stew will keep in the fridge for up to four days, so it’s perfect for meal prep.
This dish is also budget-friendly and packed with protein and vegetables. Serve it over rice or quinoa, or enjoy it as is.
Low Country Chicken Stew
When most people think of summertime, they envision long days spent outdoors enjoying the warm weather. But in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, the hot and humid summers are best spent indoors where it’s cool and airy. That’s why this Low Country Chicken Stew is the perfect dish to enjoy on a summer day.
It’s light yet filling, and packed with flavor from the fresh herbs used. Plus, it can be made in one pot so you don’t have to heat up your kitchen with multiple appliances. Serve this stew over some rice or quinoa for a complete meal that will leave you feeling satisfied without being weighed down.
This Low Country Chicken Stew is inspired by the classic shrimp and grits dish that is so popular in the South. I swapped out the shrimp for chicken since it’s a bit lighter and less expensive than seafood. The chicken is simmered in a sauce made with tomatoes, onions, garlic, and chicken broth.
Then, just before serving, I added in some fresh thyme and basil leaves which really brighten up the flavors. If you can find okra at your local farmers market or grocery store, toss a few pieces into the stew as well – it gives it a nice texture and flavor that takes this dish over-the-top delicious!
Conclusion
This is a great recipe for chicken stew. The flavors are well balanced and the ingredients list is simple. This would be a great dish to make for a weeknight dinner or to take to a potluck.
